The Honest Kitchen- Grain Free Chicken #ChewyInfluencer

We were asked by Chewy.com to spread awareness about the benefits of feeding a dehydrated diet. I chose to review The Honest Kitchen because I have heard ONLY but good things about them.

Did you know that feeding a dehydrated diet can improve your pets digestion, reduce allergies, have a healthier skin and coat and much more?

If you are like me at first I was nervous to switch to a dehydrated food over kibble or wet food. We have always fed our pups wet canned food and kibble. Scooping a few scoops of pet food in a bowl is easy and only takes a few seconds. But with THK it only takes 3 minutes to add water (for a close to raw) minimally processed meal.

Benefits of Dehydrated Foods:

  • Dehydrated foods offer all the same benefits as feeding your pets raw.
  • The foods are cooked slowly with gentle heat so it doesn’t compromise any nutrients, but it will eliminate any dangerous pathogens found in raw foods.
  • Not messy like raw food
  • Dehydrated foods can be great for travel because they require no refrigeration–just water!
  • All THK ingredients are processed in a USA human grade facility
  • FREE of chemicals & preservatives
  • All their meat is hormone and antibiotic free
  • THK is a non GMO
  • No by products
  • No corn, wheat or soy ingredients

Our first thoughts on The Honest Kitchen:

  1. Sleek box
  2. Quick and easy to mix, stir and serve
  3. The food is full of colors
  4. Smells good–like chicken noodle soup!
  5. It does take a little more time than throwing kibble into a bowl, but it’s worth it in my opinion.
  6. In love with the ingredients:
    1. All ingredients dehydrated: Free-range chicken, organic flaxseed, potatoes, sweet potatoes, apples, celery, honey, pumpkin, cabbage, bananas, papayas, green beans, organic kelp, garlic

minerals [tricalcium phosphate, potassium chloride, choline chloride, zinc amino acid chelate, iron amino acid chelate, potassium iodide, copper amino acid chelate, sodium selenite]

vitamins [vitamin E supplement, vitamin B12 supplement, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), vitamin D3 supplement

Inside the box is a resealable bag of your dehydrated food. (Also look how colorful the food is!)

I tried getting a cute picture of the dogs with the box of THK, but Alcide decided to not pose and smell the food instead. Let’s just say he was excited to try it!

Testing out their new food!

  1. I feed the BARF model raw diet. I would use this food EXCEPT there is way too much starch in it (potatoes and sweet potatoes high on the list.) That much starch would change their stomach acid so they couldn’t digest the raw bones. Too bad.. 😦

    1. We have never fed BARF raw, I have looked into it before because I know it’s becoming very popular and way better than the kibble dog food, but I personally enjoy feeding THK because it’s less of a mess. I would love to hear more about your BARF model raw diet, you should make a post sometime–I would love to learn more about it, like where do you buy your meat because I was told not to buy the meat from a grocery store because they could have dangerous bacteria such as Salmonella, E. coli, etc.
